FORECAST | Aquarius Season 2019

Note: In our solar system, the Sun is the central point around which the planets orbit. From the Earth perspective, we cannot survive without sunlight; it is the light that nourishes our bodies, and the spotlight under which we act out our entire lives. Given the Sun’s importance, we’ve learned to articulate time around its trends. The Spring Equinox, Summer Solstice, Fall Equinox, and Winter Solstice all relate back to the felt shifts of shining brilliance the Sun shares with us in this lonely universe. And so it is from Earth’s perspective that I write these astrological forecasts in time with the Sun’s journey through the tropical zodiac.

OVERVIEW

Aquarius is the fixed air sign of the zodiac. It is often perceived as the brainy weird kid of the twelve signs, reflecting deeply about humanitarian issues, and sparking revolutionary actions. It has two rulers – Saturn and Uranus. Saturn shows us Aquarius the Architect – the water-bearer’s ability to plan for and build out new and better structures. Uranus gives us a taste of Aquarius the Eccentric – the future-minded oddball who values informed thought and innovative systems over fitting in and normalcy. In blending the signification of Aquarius’ co-rulers, we find the core attitude to be separation in the name of betterment. And so you might see this in people who have strong Aquarian signatures – people who tend to meaningfully create space between them and everyone else in order to better understand and improve.

During 2019’s Aquarius season, however, there is an added element of heat and friction. To start us off, the Lunar Eclipse in Leo in the late night of January 20th is the main event amidst two tense squares and a grand fire trine. Right away we are thrown into the fire, asked to activate our passionate natures, to open ourselves to our internal spark. The rest of the season is marked by aspects with several planets in fire signs, grounded by Saturn’s movement through cool, earthy Capricorn. It seems that once the eclipse has passed, we will finally be granted the opportunity to really put our new year’s resolutions into motion.

Overall, this Aquarius season offers us a lot of active energy to use as we begin or continue our developments and projects. It seems that we can get pretty far this season, and then when Pisces season comes along we can perhaps rest a bit and see how far we’ve come.

TIMELINE

*all times are listed in Eastern Time.

The Sun enters Aquarius on January 20th at 3:59 am.

  • Throughout the 20th, the moon moves through Cancer, opposing Pluto, Mercury, and eventually conjuncting the nodal axis. As it builds light and approaches fullness, we are given a new perspective on the insights that have developed since the partial solar eclipse on January 5th. (read more)
  • The same day, at 11:15 pm, Venus in Sagittarius squares Neptune in Pisces. This planetary combination (planet of desire & planet of fantasy) calls illusions forward. With the tension of the square pattern, we are asked to problem solve – to cut away the unnecessary – to prioritize. In this case, we need to untangle our desires from our illusions. Sometimes the idea or image of a reality is more appealing than the reality itself. We all have these moments where we want the picture-perfect without realizing how it actually feels to live in that image. It is important now to open your heart and mind to a desired sensation – what do I want to feel VS what do I want to look like.

Early on January 21st at 12:16 am, the Total Lunar Eclipse in Leo is exact.

  • Following the moon’s near full-ness in Cancer, the Earth’s body blocks light from the Sun, casting a dark reddened shadow over the moon. The Sun at 0 degrees of Aquarius and the moon at 0 degrees of Leo, are impeded from seeing each other while the Earth stands between them. The pattern of eclipses in Leo and Aquarius have been ongoing since 2017, asking us to release excess focus on group-think for better more loving forms of self-expression. This Total Lunar Eclipse in Leo marks the end of this cycle, awakening us to the full potential of our refreshed Leonine expression. More love, more creativity, more pride in self.
  • Considering the Venus-Neptune square an hour earlier, there is an element of reckoning in this eclipse. That process of cutting away illusion for actual felt experience is very involved in the lesson of this Leo eclipse. It is as if we can finally feel the work of being authentic, of sharing our eccentricities and unique gifts – we can finally open our hearts to the full bloom of our personal offerings to the collective. And as a result, confidence and enthusiasm swell.
  • Another point to consider is the Mars-Saturn square which occurs at 6:47 am the same day. Mars in Aries squares Saturn in Capricorn. Our two most challenging planets are at odds in this aspect, bringing up a lot of frustration. The desire to take on everything and move as fast as possible VS the wisdom of slow and steady wins the race. This is a call-back to the conjunction between Mars and Saturn in early 2018. Back then we were dealing with the question, “how can I strategically use my energy?“ We all faced challenges around productivity, many of us saturated with too much work or too many goals. Hopefully you took the medicine of the lesson, and found ways to appropriately pace yourself. This square-pattern now offers a test. How far have you come, are you appropriately using your resources? Is a course correction needed?
  • Finally, at around 9 pm, there is a Grand Fire Trine between Mars in Aries, the Moon in Leo, and Jupiter and Venus in Sagittarius. Typically, the grand fire trine gives us a big boost of energy towards passion and creativity. However, with the Leo Moon in the distorted space of the North Node, there seems to be extra attention on the Leo element of this trine, like an arrow pointing at the Leo placement in the chart.
  • All together now: This eclipse wakes us up to the whole point of the eclipse pattern – like the epic climax of the hero’s journey, in which the hero faces the final obstacle. It was never about the obstacle or what others expected of the hero, but rather the hero’s will and personal sense of direction. It was always about the hero’s growth and development as a person, about maturing and coming into a stronger better self after many trials with personal demons. And so we are faced with the tension of prioritization, of decision making, of understanding the value of who we are and why we are here and how we can offer ourselves more freely and honestly in light of a better tomorrow.
  • In a mundane sense, eclipse days are better spent in observation, though it appears this one might be calling us to action! If that is the case for you, my advice is to act on your best and highest good without ego, without judgment, and with lots of compassion.

January 22nd at 7:25 am, Venus conjuncts Jupiter in Sagittarius.

  • Following the epic eclipse in Leo, our two most beneficial planets conjoin in Jupiter’s domicile. This gives us an optimistic day for love and luck! On a mundane level, this is a great day for social engagements and group gatherings.
  • In another perspective, this conjunction can open us to the many potentials of what love is and how we can relate to it from a more philosophical tone. There is also possibility for meeting loved ones in the dream world, finding love in the astral realm.

January 23rd at 6:13 am, Mercury in Capricorn squares Uranus in Aries.

  • Mercury-Uranus offers significant truth downloads. Sudden awareness or enlightenment can occur. With the Capricorn-Aries mash up, this relates to the earlier Mars-Saturn square on the 21st. Something new becomes evident to us – a missing piece in the puzzle of balance. Or possibly the recognition that we made a mistake and it is time to address it.

January 24th at 12:49 am, Mercury enters Aquarius.

  • Mercury in Aquarius is very systematic, organizing for the sake of improvement. There is a touch of engineering here, but only in a theoretical sense (unless Aquarius is marks one of the houses below the horizon line, in which case engineering is more spontaneous and occurs in a tone of response). Discussion tends toward the logical and rational. Problem solving can be a lot of fun with this placement.
  • Of note, Mercury is moving at a quickened pace, adding some extra oomph to the mental processes. It’s possible that discussions, meetings, writing, and communications go on much longer as a result of Hermes’ fast-paced flitting to and fro.

January 25th at 12:53 pm, Mars in Aries trines Jupiter in Sagittarius.

  • Reminding us of the earlier grand fire trine as well as the Leo eclipse, we get a boost from Mars and Jupiter to act out some of our intentions. Jupiter’s philosophies and ideas are given embodiment with Mars’ action-oriented nature. If we’ve been meaning to do something, today’s energies may feel like the right time for it.
  • This trine also speaks to Mars’ earlier conjunction with Jupiter in January 2018, and their larger cycle overall. Back then, you might have made a resolution to accomplish something – set goals or intentions for longer term growth. In November 2018, Mars squared Jupiter, forcing us to see how far we’d come with those intentions. At present, with the trine aspect, there is some ease in the effort of continued growth and goal reaching, however it can be squandered due to the lack of tension that tends to force us into action. If there is something that you’ve been working on over these past twelve months, consider today a good opportunity to review and reorganize in an effort to make those intentions a reality. It will be easier now than it will be this May.

January 27th at 4:10 pm the Last Quarter Moon in Scorpio is exact.

  • This lunation marks the falling action following the epic nature of the Lunar Eclipse in Leo. Because the moon is waning and losing light, energies will be depleted and reflection/introspection will take center stage. In Scorpio, la luna craves these depths, and so we are given a special lens for inward thought.
  • It is possible that this lunation also brings a sense of crisis-awareness to the shifts that have been occurring during eclipse season. Such awareness is key in the process of fully integrating and normalizing the changes that have occurred up to this point.

January 29th at 9:51 pm, Mercury conjuncts the Sun in Aquarius.

  • This is the moment of Mercury’s superior conjunction with the Sun, giving us a sense of awareness around the mental pursuits we’ve taken on since the last Mercury retrograde. We are now moving towards an upcoming Mercury retrograde in Pisces, and will need to start finishing up what was started earlier in this cycle.

January 31st at 9:14 am, Saturn in Capricorn sextiles Neptune in Pisces.

  • Boundary building Saturn and foggy Neptune don’t really make the best pair, but when they are joined together in a sextile aspect, they offer helpful rays to each other. Sextiles aren’t as powerful as trines, but they can offer us pleasant energy between two planets. Saturn and Neptune in this configuration can help us feel safe in the drift – a sense of still faith within. As we begin turning inward as the moon and Mercury are suggesting, Saturn-Neptune can also offer us safe path towards internal processing.

February 1st at 10:19 pm, Mars in Aries squares Pluto in Capricorn.

  • Similar to the Mars-Saturn square on the day of the Lunar Eclipse in Leo, this square pattern between Mars and Pluto asks us to recall how far we’ve come since their earlier conjunction in 2018. Mars-Pluto tends to give us a lot of energy activation towards living on the edge – desiring the experience of being alive no matter the cost. Pluto can also relate to power and control issues as a result of deep fear. Ultimately, with these two in cahoots, we’ll get an opportunity to experience the drama of our control/power issues – whether via internal conflict or external conflict depending on your personal chart placements.
  • In line with the earlier eclipse, it seems that if you choose to step up and work with the toxic or dark energy that exists within you (as opposed to avoiding it), you’ll level up significantly in this life-game.

February 2nd at 6:41 pm, Venus in Sagittarius trines Uranus in Aries.

  • In 2018 we experienced Venus opposite Uranus, which brought a lot of tension to the way we approach engaging with others as well as love. Now that both planets are in fire signs and making a trine aspect to each other, there is a sense of resolution and ease here. It is possible that the tension has only momentarily dissipated, but it is also possible that a genuine understanding is coming out of it.
  • I can’t help but be reminded of BORNS’ Electric Love music video, which I’ve added here for those who don’t know it. Basically, the element of sudden rushing joy – the tingly happy sensation we get when something really wonderful happens. When Venus and Uranus come into contact in such a harmonious way it can relate to a shock of pleasure that we didn’t recognize before.
  • This is a passing transit, so it is possible that the rush of energy that comes from it is only temporary unless there are placements and activations in your chart to suggest otherwise.

February 3rd 4:54 pm, Mercury in Aquarius sextiles Jupiter in Sagittarius. Then Venus enters Capricorn at 5:29 PM.

  • Mercury-Jupiter can sometimes relate to information overload. Since the last Mercury retrograde was so influenced by the Mercury-Jupiter conjunction, this Mercury-Jupiter sextile is like a reminder from the past, but only if you want it. There is always the option to ignore the fruit of the moment, but in this instance, it seems wise to take some time and consider how things have grown and developed since late 2018. It can be so helpful to just look back for a moment as you continue onward.
  • In kind, Venus in Capricorn elevates our value and beauty decisions based off of past structures. In Capricorn, the planet of desire wants high quality, stand-the-test-of-time materials and expressions of love. Think classic and sophisticated, a noticeable difference from Venus’ earlier trip through explorative ever-optimistic Sagittarius.

February 4th at 4:03 PM, the New Moon in Aquarius is exact.

  • Take in a deep breathe of fresh air. We are finally out of eclipse season! This lunation is the time for intention-setting and manifestation as the new year finally begins after the refresh of the eclipses. (This also marks the Chinese New Year – Year of the Earth Pig!)
  • Consider how things have developed up to this point in 2019, dive deeper into the forecasts for the year ahead, and give yourself the opportunity to make the plans (or review the plans that have been made). This moment will help ground any haphazard resolutions from January.

February 7th at 7:32 pm, Jupiter in Sagittarius sextiles the Sun in Aquarius. At 8:24 PM, Mercury in Aquarius sextiles Mars in Aries.

  • Two planets in Aquarius are in a sextile with two planets in fire signs. This adds some heat to the Aquarian innovation, and gives us an opportunity to reach further, to make action, to create based off of what’s been going on in our minds. This is also opportune given the fact that the moon is in an extraverted phase now, gaining light and becoming available for manifesting.

February 9th at 5:53 pm, Mercury in Aquarius sextiles Uranus in Aries.

  • Mercury-Uranus were just in a square earlier this season on January 23rd. If there were insights about changes that needed to occur, now is a great time to put those changes into motion!
  • This is otherwise a fun day for mental pursuits, reading something different, and sharing unusual ideas.

February 10th at 5:50 pm, Mercury enters Pisces.

  • Mercury’s entrance into Pisces is refreshing and balancing since we’ve been missing the water element this season. Like the rest of the water signs, Pisces is emotional, sensitive, nurturing, and passive. This element can offer us some much needed pause as we cool down the fiery motivations that have been burning us up. However, because Mercury is actually really out of place in this sign, this placement can be a tad frustrating in the long term.
  • In fact, Mercury will eventually station retrograde in Pisces, extending it’s transit through much of April. That said, it is not yet time to prepare for the infamous chaos of Mercury retrograde. Instead, it is worthwhile to explore the difficult-to-define nature of Pisces through the definition-master Mercury. It may seem counterintuitive to make good out of this placement, but in reality it isn’t so bad. It definitely isn’t great for analyzing spreadsheets and numbers, but it is very helpful for creative writing and the arts.
  • In addition to a boost in creativity, Mercury in Pisces, though not at its best, is still wonderful for its ability to comprehend emotions, to articulate what often seems beyond words, and to share goodwill with others. Consider Mercury’s transit through Pisces a long lesson in creative expression.

February 12th at 5:26 pm, the First Quarter Moon in Taurus is exact.

  • As the moon gains light and transitions towards fullness, we are able to see the beginning stages of progress in any intentions set during the earlier new moon. At this point in the lunar cycle, we start prioritizing certain tasks or projects over others, placing more focus on what we’d like to reap at the full moon. In Taurus, the moon delights in sensual pleasures which adds a certain physical element to what is being manifested.
  • I imagine the beginning stages of a pregnancy when the mother starts to show, or the moments leading up to dinner when the meal is actually being prepared. There is something very exciting about it that lights up all five senses.

February 13th at 1:20 am, Mars conjuncts Uranus in Aries

  • This is a pretty big deal. Mars, the ruler of Aries, is joining together with Uranus who won’t be back in Aries for a very long time. It’s kind of like Mars’ final goodbye to this visitor in its home, and it seems that there would be something meaningful that comes out of it.
  • Mars-Uranus is hot electricity, explosive, engaging, exciting, and unnerving. Because Uranus is always trying to shock us, we know that what comes of this conjunction will be from left field – totally not what we expect. Buttttt! We can narrow down the options a bit: if you know where Aries is in your chart, then you can identify the area of life that the shock will be coming from. Here’s a quick break down if you know your rising sign:
    • Aries – 1st house; self || Taurus – 12th house; isolation, fears, enemies || Gemini – 11th house; community || Cancer – 10th house; career || Leo – 9th house; mind expansion || Virgo – 8th house; debts, loans, collabs || Libra – 7th house; partnerships || Scorpio – 6th house; chores, work, health || Sagittarius – 5th house; creativity, pleasure || Capricorn – 4th house; home, family || Aquarius – 3rd house; communication, routines || Pisces – 2nd house; finances, income.

February 14th at 5:51 am, Mars enters Taurus.

  • Just in time for Valentine’s Day in the US, Mars enters sensual Taurus! This placement helps temper Mars’ impulse-action so there is more of a method to the way things are done. Over the next few weeks, slow and steady wins the race while Mars tours Taurus. If you’ve got a project that you’ve wanted to get done, now you’ll have the steady energy flow to do it.

February 17th at 3:44 am, Venus in Capricorn sextiles Neptune in Pisces.

  • This aspect harks back to the Venus-Neptune square on January 20th at the time of the Leo eclipse. At that time there was a focus on the way things looked versus the way things felt. In this instance, we might find that the desired appearance is in harmony with the desired feeling. This is a good day for artistic endeavors; putting pen to paper; making something beautiful; feeling into what looks good.

Feb 18th at 2:54 am the Sun in Aquarius sextiles Uranus in Aries. At 5:51 AM, Venus in conjuncts Saturn in Capricorn.

  • As the Sun moves through the last degree of Aquarius, the two co-rulers of the sign are activated leaving us with a final impression of the season. Sun-Uranus can inspire us to look at our sense of self in a new light. Venus-Saturn can be a little heavy, pessimistic, and over-critical. In unison, we might find that the thing we’ve been so critical of can be seen with new eyes – that it can be repurposed as a useful character trait rather than something that makes us a little sad about ourselves.

Forecast | Capricorn Season 2018

OVERVIEW

Capricorn is the cardinal earth sign of the zodiac, ruled by Saturn. The Sun’s entrance into this cool nocturnal sign draws out the determination and patience of the goat, for better or worse. On one hand, the ability to steadily and slowly make gains in any project is extremely useful for long-term growth. On the other hand, the ability to identify potential pitfalls can hold us back so much so that we find ourselves in a rut. The key to not getting stuck in the Capricorn paralysis, is to review how far you’ve come and how much closer you are to success; knowing that true maturation and wisdom is gained through methodical practice and perseverance. Appropriately, the calendar year is refreshed during this Saturnian season, giving us a good reason to measure how far we’ve come and to make the effort to continue climbing towards wherever our goals lie.

Curiously, during this particular season, we are met with an energetic warp. The nodes of the moon have fallen into Capricorn and Cancer, forcing us to pay special attention to the axis of responsibility. Cancer represents responsibility of origins – to take care of home and inner beginnings. Capricorn represents responsibility to society – to make meaningful contributions and to achieve greater heights. The north node of the moon moves through Cancer, suggesting that we need to take better care of our inner lives, to reclaim nourishment and gentleness. The south node of the moon moves through Capricorn, suggesting that we need to release ourselves from harsh societal judgments, to let go of superficial achievement for something more meaningful. As these two sensitive points are activated with the partial Solar Eclipse in Capricorn on January 5th, we begin to see what needs release as we move into the new year.

Find your rising sign below, and discover what area of life needs release. Then continue to scroll down to the Timeline portion and learn what dates and times will be activated as the Sun traverses through the zodiacal sign Capricorn.

TIMELINE

Use the timeline below to map out Capricorn season, from Dec 21st to Jan 20th. All times are listed in Eastern Time.

December 21st at 5:22 PM, the Sun enters Capricorn

  • Less than 24 hours after the Sun’s entrance in Capricorn, a full moon becomes exact in Cancer on December 22nd at 12:48 PM. When the moon is full, illuminated and bright, everything that has been built up since the corresponding new moon becomes visible. This can coincide with meaningful climactic events, large gatherings of people, and/or the final word on how a project is unfolding.
  • This particular full moon has a distinct introversion to it. In Cancer, the full moon delights in coziness, close familiar relationships, and tradition. It can awaken a cuddly and sensitive nurture nature in us. In stark contrast, Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn bring heaviness and duty into this full moon’s nurturing environment as these two planets are met by the moon’s opposition on December 23rd. The opposition can cause us to feel ultra protective of our ooey-gooey insides, not wanting our sensitive sides to get hurt by the harsh realities that may exist around us.
  • I’d use this full moon to indulge in the creature comfort of home, blankets, and whatever else makes you feel safe. As the moon approaches it’s oppositions with Saturn and Pluto, try not to get bogged down with fear or pressure to perform – instead lean into gratitude for the supportive structures in your life and for your own ability to self-care.

December 24th at 7:34 PM, Mercury in Sagittarius squares Neptune in Pisces.

  • A month earlier on November 16th, Mercury and Neptune went through this same square as Mercury was stationing retrograde. On this day in December, there is a fogginess that may come over us that is reminiscent of what occurred during the earlier square. It is possible that there is a resolution, an apology, or a sudden sense of insight into whatever went down during Mercury’s retrograde (maybe you finally find the perfect holiday gift during your last minute shopping). It is also possible that you spend the day in a drift, hopefully not doing any analytical work because it won’t be the day for such tedious things.

December 28th at 4:31 PM, Venus in Scorpio sextiles Pluto in Capricorn

  • There is something very dark about this aspect. It could be the fact that Scorpio and Capricorn are both nocturnal signs – they tend to be introspective, sensitive, and defensive. It could also be Pluto’s involvement since it is a planet related to the underworld, the darkness of the soul, and the stuff that scares us. Whatever it is, Venus leads the way into the dark, shining brightly so that we can become aware of the shadows.
  • This is a day where we’ll want to get deep with loved ones, to connect on a soul level. If you are lucky enough to be around people you trust and cherish, this might be a lovely day to strengthen those relationships with real-talk, vulnerability and openness. Shining the light on our dark parts so that we can grow together with others.

December 29th at 4:34 AM, the Last Quarter Moon is exact in Libra.

  • The last quarter phase of the moon cycle, relates to the shedding process. We begin to let go of the energy, the details, the processes that are no longer necessary. It can be painful to lose what was once so helpful to us, causing a sense of crisis or excess anxiety. In other ways, this is a good kick in the pants to open ourselves to what lies ahead, to ready ourselves for the next project on the horizon.
  • In Libra, this last quarter moon reminds us to let go of relationships that do not serve, and to open our hearts and minds for new ways of approaching social engagement. We do not always need to be there for everyone else; we need to take care of ourselves. Likewise, we need a social life to feel connected with our people, so that we aren’t isolated and lost in the echo chamber of our own minds. On this day, take some time to see where you lie on this spectrum of relational energy. The moon will help illuminate the answer.

December 31st at 9:19 PM, Mars enters Aries.

  • Mars’ ingress into it’s home sign of Aries is very exciting! As many of you will recall, Mars spent the majority of 2018 in Saturn-ruled signs, digging into the hard work of goal-setting and goal-achieving. Many of us experienced stress, overwhelm, fatigue, bursts of unmanageable energy, and a lot of impatience. Sometimes we experienced these chaotic shifts in a single day. So it is very welcome news that Mars is in a sign which strengthens it, helping us all to express our drives with a little bit more power.
  • Of course, throughout Mars’ time in Aries, it will make harsh aspects to Saturn, Pluto, and the nodal axis. This pattern will be reminiscent of Mars’ retrograde as well as it’s impact on the mid-year eclipses of 2018, bringing up any long-term challenges that may have been developing since April 2018. On December 31st, we’ll get our first taste of these potential challenges, so keep an eye out.

January 2nd at 00:49 AM, the Sun conjoins Saturn in Capricorn.

  • Sun-Saturn conjunctions are generally exhausting since sobering Saturn will cool and limit the Sun’s life-giving nature. This year, with the south node in Capricorn, exhaustion may exaggerate into depressive states or pessimistic decision making. We may feel obligated by our current standards of work and living without realizing that there is a better way of managing our time. We may not recognize that we have the option of prioritizing ourselves first. If you are in situation where you have to make an important decision, I would hold off until the gloominess wears away.

January 4th at 00:12 AM, Mercury in Sagittarius trines Uranus in Aries.

  • Mercury-Uranus contacts can enliven our minds, creating electricity in our thoughts. In some ways this can speak to divine connection, getting closer to answers, finding meaning in the patterns around us. In other ways, this can activate indecision-impulse.
  • Have you ever been in a situation where there were so many options that you became overwhelmed at making a decision? Sometimes this leads to analysis paralysis, but other times this leads to impulsively deciding – leaping without looking. Mercury’s trine to Uranus will elevate the desire to leap without looking. This can be a little frightening after the fact; you might look back and question your impulsivity.
  • Later the same day, at 10:39 PM, Mercury enters Capricorn. After the high of fiery Aries and Sagittarius, Mercury’s entrance into Capricorn is a sobering landing. If you’ve made the wrong decision (if there was a decision to make), you will know very shortly afterwards. If, however, you are moving through a day of routine, you may notice a distinct shift from the optimistic carefree Sag mentality towards the ultra-real practical Cap mentality.
    • Mercury in Capricorn is a planner who is always considering potential for error, and identifying the best course of action. Mental processes get quite serious here, causing us to lean towards a more pessimistic perspective. We may find that it is difficult to really let loose and relax our minds. Mercury is also moving at a pretty quick pace, drawing us towards future-oriented goal making. It can be difficult to pause the mind long enough to get any rest.

January 5th at 8:28 PM, a Partial Solar Eclipse in Capricorn is exact.

  • In the day following the partial solar eclipse, the moon will conjoin Pluto and square a newly direct Uranus. This is a pretty energetic solar eclipse, and will mark the beginning of eclipse season for the first half of 2019. Let’s break this down:
  • A partial solar eclipse in Capricorn marks the beginning of a major renovation in our Capricorn area of life. Think: responsibilities, reality structures, traditions, conservative systems. What structures are outdated and making us prone to failure? What conservative systems are no longer providing true conservation? What traditions are holding us back from improved operations?
  • The moon’s conjunction to Pluto in Capricorn, emphasizes a strong desire to hold onto our old outmoded ways as a result of fear and uncertainty. Pluto brings a strong power-energetic to the table – it can make us blind with desire, but it can also open us to new states of empowerment. The key to accessing Pluto’s empowerment is to willingly accept that we don’t have control over life. By holding onto security blankets we actually lose even more control. The best we can do is ride the waves of change, to open ourselves to better ways of living. This can be a small shift to start. At the time of the solar eclipse, we may feel tension around the area of life that Capricorn is highlighting (see the overview section for more details), but it is best to let go of trying so hard – to give yourself the opportunity to relax.
  • When Uranus stations direct in Aries on January 6th at 3:26 PM, there will be a notable activation of our Capricorn control natures. If you didn’t see yourself as needing control, you might rethink it once this station occurs. Uranus in Aries draws out lightning bolt changes towards self-improvement and self-awareness. During it’s station direct, built-up energy is released and channelled through the moon in Capricorn’s square to Uranus. This activates a jolt of change or a shift in the Capricorn area of life, calling attention to any outdated behavior patterns that might arise in a moment of panic. You may find that you behave in ways you dislike. ( And that is ok.) This is only the beginning of the eclipse cycle through Capricorn-Cancer – you have some time to begin working on yourself, letting go of patterns that no longer serve, and opening yourself to shifts in perspective. Start by releasing your grip on control.

January 7th at 6:17 AM, Venus enters Sagittarius.

    • Venus in Sagittarius enjoys a good adventure, trying new flavors, exploring new places, and inviting everyone along for the journey. The light-bearer’s entrance into jovial Sagittarius will buoy spirits that may have fallen as a result of heavy Capricorn energy.
    • Find ways to release tension in your life by trying new foods, new styles of clothing, and introducing yourself to new people. You may be pleasantly surprised by how much fun you have by simply letting go.

January 8th at 5:04 AM, Mercury in Capricorn squares Mars in Aries.

    • There is some hot-headedness that can come through this aspect. Mercury in Capricorn is super serious, and wants to ensure that plans unfold the way they should. Mars in Aries is more excitable and packs a good punch – Mars wants to get it done as fast as possible. In a square pattern, these two have a hard time knowing whether to be patient or go for it. Choosing to think before you act is probably the safest option, but sometimes we just have to follow our impulses. Either way forward will become distorted with the background energy of the eclipses.

January 11th at 6:38 AM, the Sun conjoins Pluto in Capricorn.

    • Sun-Pluto conjunctions can bring fear to excessive shows of self. There may be concerns around standing out or being perceived as different from the masses. As we are moving through eclipse season, this will also highlight serious fears we hold around the areas of life related to the Capricorn-Cancer axis.

January 13th at 8:31 AM, Mercury conjoins Saturn in Capricorn

    • There is a pause in thinking; mental capacities slow. It seems that everything said has extra weightiness to it. This could also highlight a moment of important messages coming through from supervisors or higher-ups. The news may not be positive, but at least you will become aware of it.
    • Because this is co-present with the south node, words and thoughts lean towards a depressive letting-go vibration. This might be a good time to sign contracts for renovations, destruction, and other forms of removal-of-excess.

On the same day, Jupiter in Sagittarius squares Neptune in Pisces at 1:58 PM

    • This is the first of a longer-term series of squares between Jupiter and Neptune. In the classic Neptunian way, it is hard to really know how Neptune will respond to Jupiter’s square. The lengthy transit of Neptune through Pisces is still a bit of a fog even though it is almost half-way through the sign. That said, we can expect to be dealing with the following themes: Religion, Belief systems, Dreams, Ideals, Hopes, Escapism, Illusions.
    • It is also notable that this first square occurs during eclipse season – a time when there is an inherent sense of unknown at play. Perhaps this Jupiterian-Neptunian energy will bring optimism and connection to the universal nature during a time that is otherwise energetically mysterious and difficult.

January 14th at 1:45 AM, the First Quarter Moon is exact in Aries.

    • The first quarter moon awakens us to a sense of how far we’ve come since intentions were set at the new moon. However, this first quarter moon falls in the warped energy of the eclipse pattern. Awareness may come through in the form of deja vu, a sense of connection to the distant past, and an opening to ideas of a better future. In Aries, we may experience these energetics through single-person activities, active motion, yoga, and defensive behavior.

On the same day, Mercury sextiles Neptune at 8:13 AM.

    • Mercury-Neptune is cause for confusion, but in a positive aspect, we have the capacity to engage with intuition and imagination. It is also possible that we gain awareness around self-care strategies as we learn how manage the tense eclipse energy. Otherwise, this is a good time for drifting and lucid dreaming.

January 18th, Venus in Sagittarius trines Mars in Aries at 11:49 AM, Mercury conjoins Pluto in Capricorn at 3:03 PM, and the Sun in Capricorn squares Uranus in Aries at 8:30 PM.

  • Collectively, this is an active day with a lot of felt energy.
  • Venus and Mars inspire us to play and explore, to seek out activity, and to make social connections. Mercury and Pluto make us aware of the deeper underlying issues in our current behavioral patterns. The Sun and Uranus ask us to find better ways of self expression.
  • All together, there is a strong expressive bent – we want to really truly be seen and heard, we want to be around others, and we want to understand how our process of thinking is connected to the world around us. Do we hold any impact in the world? If so, what are we going to share with world? Are we going to make it a better place or a worse one?
  • This series of aspects are the last set before the Sun enters Aquarius and the Total Lunar Eclipse in Leo. As a result, the themes that develop on January 18th will play a larger role in the grand finale of the Aquarius-Leo eclipse pattern.

Forecast|Virgo Season 2018

This was originally posted on astrolberries.com/blog on August 14, 2018.

THE OVERVIEW

The Sun’s entrance into Virgo shifts the collective focus from fiery passion to grounded intentions. We feel a renewed need to step back and observe how the recent information and activity of Leo season fits into our current reality structures. We’ve been through the fire, seen some of the shadows that light can create, and felt the intense shift of the eclipses. Like learning a new dance, the integration of learned insights may not be in sync with the rest of our lives. Appropriately, Virgo Season gives us the opportunity to expand on the details, to reconnect with our natural rhythm and process.

Virgo is often associated with turning chaos into order. It is a mutable earth sign ruled by Mercury, a planet that always wants to categorize and organize what’s in front of it. In earth, Mercury’s desire to separate things is embodied in activities like cleaning, bookkeeping, and lab work. There is a precision to Virgo because of Mercury’s love of details; and that precision can sometimes look like perfectionism, nit-picking, and anxiety. In many ways there is an engineering quality to this mutable earth sign – I imagine a mechanic gently taking apart a car, wiping down every nook & cranny, inspecting every detail, and then putting it back together in perfect order, restoring the function of the car. Another association with Virgo is healing – because this sign can elevate a planet’s sensitivity to details, there is a natural desire for filtering that can occur where we might see a strength in removing toxins in order to restore or maintain function.

In kind, the astrology of this Virgo Season is asking us to meticulously sort through the recently shifted sands and re-create order for better functionality and overall well-being.

AUG 23- SEP 2 | THE SHAPE OF THINGS | VIRGO 1

As the dust finally settles from the recent eclipse season, the Sun’s entrance into Virgo allows us to see the shape of things. We enter a season so dedicated to the earth element that shape, form, function, and our literal physical things are now in focus. This is a welcome break from the attention we’ve been placing on internal passions and our energetic expression of self. Now we can finally put plans into motion.

In support of plans in motion, Mars will be stationing in its exaltation degree in Capricorn. This can produce an excited stillness, an anticipation for release of pent-up tension, like a crouch before the jump. To add, the potential energy is further compounded as the Sun immediately becomes a part of a Grand Earth Trine with excitable Uranus in Taurus and steady Saturn in Capricorn.

The Grand Earth Trine first reaches its fullest culmination on August 25th, and sets the tone for the rest of Virgo Season.

Grand Trines are associated with the three signs of a single element: water, fire, earth, or air. The Grand Earth Trine of this Virgo Season is completely absorbed in the elemental qualities of earth. Some buzz words include: cold, dry, reflective, steady, grounded, practical, embodied, physical, sensual, dedicated, stubborn. However, because of Uranus’ involvement in the Grand Trine, movement becomes a major part of this aspect pattern! Think: movement of physical objects, overcoming a static situation, removing obstacles, shifting furniture, large shipments, and mass production. The Mars station, though it isn’t in aspect to the Grand Trine, amplifies that sense of shake-up/wake-up to Uranus’s movement quality by coloring the moment with an extra-boosted desire for action. Saturn’s placement in the trine suggests that what is moved or changed has the potential to stand the test of time for better or worse. And with the Sun involved, it seems that the change is related to the recent eclipse season and what has been learned or let go from that earlier environment.

One day after the Grand Earth Trine’s culmination, we see the culmination of the full moon in Pisces. This occurs on August 26th, and is directly involved in the Grand Trine’s aspect pattern.

The full moon in Pisces re-emphasizes the integration of changes related to the recent eclipse season since the Sun & Moon are reaching a full phase following the new phase of the Solar Eclipse on August 11th. On the same day, Venus in Libra sees a harsh square to Pluto in Capricorn. The Venus-Pluto square adds a social depth to the full moon’s illuminating perceptions, giving us an opportunity to see where we stand in outdated, unfair, and unjust social patterns. We can use the Grand Earth Trine and Pisces Full Moon to identify priorities, goals, and processes that will support our development towards being better humans.

On August 27th, Mars stations Direct.

A release from the stillness, a jolt of energy, the relief of finally being able to move again. For some of us, the Mars station will be harsh – we may see the final collapse of a broken system, the climax of an ongoing battle, or a violent break from a terrible situation. Though it can be harsh or violent, the direct motion of Mars is something that will give all of us renewed sense of vitality and energy. Overall, anything difficult that may arise during this time will likely be for the best in the long run.

If you’d like to know more about how Mars will affect you, consider getting a natal chart consultation.

Following the Mars station and direct motion, the planets are relatively quiet until the Sun enters the next 10 degrees of Virgo on September 2nd. This gives us the opportunity to find a sense of calm or play time – almost like a break from the intentionality of working with the planetary energies. Most likely, due to Mars, we’ll be feeling ultra energetic and may even have a desire to be productive. I suggest using the productive energy to make plans or work on something that’s already in motion rather than doing anything seriously important – save the important stuff for moments when the planets are actively engaged. 🙂

SEP 2 – SEP 12 | EVOLVING PATTERNS | VIRGO 2

As the Sun continues into the second decan of Virgo, Mercury reclaims full speed and even begins to move a little faster.

In highlight of Mercury’s revitalization, the Moon in Gemini comes into a last quarter phase with the Sun on September 2nd.

The last quarter moon in Gemini signifies a mindful wrap-up to the nearly finished re-integration process from the eclipse season. Whatever had been planted, illuminated, uncovered, or started during the eclipse season is reviewed once more before falling behind the veil again until early 2019. Adding to the review process, the quicksilver planet Mercury sees a friendly sextile to Venus in Libra. This combination encourages us to consider how we influence others and how others influence us.

Three days later, Mercury enters Virgo on September 5th.

Mercury is not only at home in the sign of Virgo, but is also exalted – giving this mental planet some extra dignity in its abilities to dissect, analyze, and process. As Mercury enters the first decan of Virgo, like the Sun just 10 days earlier, it becomes the missing Virgo piece to the Grand Earth Trine with Uranus in Taurus and Saturn in Capricorn.

The second Grand Earth Trine, now with Mercury, occurs on September 7th.

This is an opportunity to better understand, articulate, and build on what occurred during the last Grand Trine on August 25th. And with Mercury’s involvement in the aspect pattern, there may be an added emphasis on organization of materials and fine tuning processes. Additionally, Saturn stations direct in Capricorn the day before, speaking to the longer Saturn transit in its home sign of Capricorn. Saturn’s station brings an extra sturdiness to the realizations made, and can offer a positive support to an active analytical mind (Mercury) and reversal-revealing insight awareness (Uranus). That’s to say – if you get a little anxious about the shifting potentials and the literal changes to your environment, Saturn will likely be there to offer support in the form of sturdy structure – both figuratively and literally.

Then, on September 8th the Moon and the asteroid Pallas Athene in Virgo repeat the Grand Earth Trine, giving us another opportunity to really feel into and understand the significance of the Grand Trine.

This repetitive energy really drives home the point of the Grand Earth Trine. The Moon helps us to gain a felt awareness of how the physical developments are affecting us internally. Pallas Athene, an asteroid in tone with the lore of Athena, helps us identify the patterns of the Grand Earth Trine and how the patterns may develop into the future.

At this point you may notice that there is a huge focus on practicality, stability, and physicality during this repeating Grand Earth Trine, almost to a fault (even shocking Uranus is only shaking us to reveal optimized approaches to fostering stability) – One might wonder, where is the fun and fire? Where is the love and passion? Where is the emotion and the felt community? OR it is possible that you may not notice the over-emphasis on practicality at all because Grand Trines have a tendency to swallow us in the vortex of their element.

Fortunately we do have a balancing set of aspects going on in the background: the Sun in Virgo opposes Neptune in Pisces, and Venus in Libra squares Mars in Capricorn. The Sun-Neptune opposition takes us out of ourselves and asks us to blur the lines between ego and the universe, inspiring a “we are one” attitude and a nebulous sense of self that can bring meaning to the changes and structures occurring in the earth plane. The Venus-Mars square adds excitement, passion, and a relational flavor to the deeper meaning and structure of the Grand Earth Trine; we may find ourselves in tense situations with others in an attempt to defend values or find a sense of internal harmony; those tensions can energize us to really utilize the power of the Grand Earth Trine to find a structure that better suits our needs.

A day later, on September 9th, Venus enters Scorpio and really starts to slow down, readying itself for retrograde motion.

Venus in Scorpio finds value, fun, and joy in uncovering mysteries, understanding the depths of others, and in the aesthetic beauty of anything taboo. Because of the slow motion, there may be some difficulty in social cues – perhaps aggression, jealousy, or defensiveness comes out; harmony is lacking; and separation from others becomes a challenge. Coinciding with this new flavor of social interactions, a New Moon in Virgo occurs, and this lunation is opposite foggy Neptune. As a result, September 9th holds a huge emphasis on what it means to be separate from others, on how to create structures in our lives, and who or what to trust. This naturally relates back to the Grand Earth Trine realizations over the last few days, and offers us an opportunity to plant seeds in response to what we’ve learned so far. This also gives us the opportunity to hit reset, to step back and read the signs – to determine what our next steps should be.

On September 10th, Mars re-enters Aquarius and moves closer to the South Node of the Moon.

Once again, as in Leo season, we are brought into an energetic state of strategy and conscious awareness. Mars in Aquarius wants to develop plans, take action on theories, and to build or remodel a better future. Being so close to the South Node, there is also a source of spiritual release in Mars’ actions – as we build, what underlying aggressions can be released in order to make this structure stronger? This may show up in a couple ways, for instance: as a desire to step back from distraction so one can focus on an action plan; or to indulge in those old resentments and to get lost in overanalyzing and social manipulation.

In support of positive release, on September 11th we see the Sun in Virgo form a sextile to Jupiter in Scorpio, and then, on September 12th, the Sun forms a trine to Pluto in Capricorn. Also on the 12th, Jupiter in Scorpio forms a sextile to Pluto in Capricorn.

By synthesizing these aspects together, we see that there is an opportunity to become better versions of ourselves by digging into the deeper darker parts of why we are here and what the point of our existence is. This supports Mars’ best intentions of building a better future. By diving deep into the hidden parts of self, we can discover underlying potentials that inspire us to make changes. We, then, are motivated to clear space and to find an energetic (and potentially literal) foundation from which we can act in confidence.

Overall, this series of aspects upon Mars’ ingress into Aquarius catalyzes us to consider what is essential in the process of spiritual growth and evolution. This energy beautifully ushers the Sun into the third decan of Virgo.

SEP 12 – SEP 22 | A TURN OF THE WHEEL | VIRGO 3

When the Sun enters the third decan of Virgo, there is an energetic shift toward spirit. Because Virgo is a mutable sign, it has a tendency to wrap things up and make space for the new potentials of the upcoming shift in seasons; especially so in the third decan. To add, after the Sun makes its way through this final ten degrees of Virgo, it will hit the equinox point, creating a perfect balance of night and day all over the world. At the entrance of the Sun into this decan, there is a shift from the earthly realm into the spiritual one creating a decay effect in what has been built up from the last equinox in March. These are days to consider what ideas will last beyond the physical representation – the legacy of something.

On September 12th, in perfect harmony with the energetic shift of the seasons, Venus in Scorpio opposes Uranus in Taurus and forms a sextile to Saturn in Capricorn.

Because Venus rules Taurus, it gives Uranus an extra boost to do what Uranus does best – to reveal truths and insights in order to optimize our understanding of something. In steady stubborn Taurus, it can be particularly unnerving to experience Uranus’ quakes, making us slower to accept changes.  And so with this super strong Venus-Uranus opposition, we are woken up to any of the truths and revelations we are still resisting. A slightly helpful boost to any rude awakenings is the sextile between Venus and Saturn, giving us the possibility to find a support system during Uranus’ activation. To add, the Moon mirrors Venus’ aspects, acting as a huge magnifying glass, bringing a sense of awareness and felt experience into what occurs.

The following day, September 13th, Mercury in Virgo opposes Neptune in Pisces.

This opposition slows down our mental processes for just long enough to really understand how we feel about what’s been going on. Up to this point, a lot of physical changes have been occurring, and a sort of over-focus on finding steadiness and practicality, which can lead to cynicism, overwhelm, and stubbornness. With Venus in Scorpio slowing down, and opposing Uranus, there is an added emphasis on how these changes feel. The Mercury-Neptune opposition can feel stressful at first, but offers us an opportunity to find a sense of wonder and faith in the process. This isn’t the best day for anything too analytical or mentally oriented, but it’s a fine day for release, reflection, daydreaming, feeling, and intuiting.

On September 15th, in pattern with the move towards a mental realm, Mercury in Virgo sees a trine to Pluto in Capricorn and, then on the 16th it forms a sextile to Jupiter in Scorpio.

Like the Grand Earth Trine, this is another aspect pattern that the Sun has already been through and that Mercury is re-visiting for us. So we come back to the questions around what it means to exist in this world and to be a part of the structures of this reality. We might ask more questions, gain flashes of insight about soul-deep purposes, and begin to parse out and articulate what was felt a few days earlier on September 11th and 12th.

Following Mercury’s positive aspects to Pluto and Jupiter, a First Quarter Moon occurs in Sagittarius on September 16th.

This lunation calls an awareness to spirit over matter, a repeat pattern of this decan. The Moon in Sagittarius highlights purpose and foresight, the ability to passionately pursue that which makes us feel alive. A sense of physicality is not necessarily present in Sagittarius, but with the First Quarter square to the Sun in Virgo, we have to consider where we started and what the intentions and foundation of this moon cycle are? We have to ask, how are our seeds from the New Moon on September 9th being fulfilled today? In some ways, the questions asked and the answers determined may be related to what was articulated in Mercury’s positive aspects to Pluto and Jupiter leading up to this lunar phase.

Then, amidst our philosophical inquiries, on September 18th, Mars in Aquarius sees a final square to Uranus in Taurus.

Considering the last few squares between Mars and Uranus since May of this year, this square is the last one we’ll see for a while. This may bring a sense of completion or finality to what has occurred in Mars’ retrograde pattern,  as well as marking a clear message or lesson from Uranus in Taurus. Whatever comes up today is likely to be part of a larger pattern over the next 7 years of Uranus’ transit through Taurus. This is likely related to finding a sense of nurture and stability from within. For more information on how this pattern may unfold in your life, consider getting a natal chart consultation.

Two days later on September 20th, Mercury sees a conjunction to the Sun in Virgo, a grand entrance towards a new path forward. On the following day, Mercury enters Libra and sees a trine to the Moon in Aquarius.

This is the final push towards spirit and away from form. As Mercury conjoins the Sun, we may come into a new state of awareness; our articulation is strengthened; and any plans made during this Virgo season are put into motion.

Mercury’s ingress into Libra shifts our focus from observation to interaction. It spotlights Venus’ slow down, and takes us out of our selves, into a sense of social awareness. As our attention turns towards this new season, we begin to see how our ideas impact the world around us, for better or worse.
