Note: In our solar system, the Sun is the central point around which the planets orbit. From the Earth perspective, we cannot survive without sunlight; it is the light that nourishes our bodies, and the spotlight under which we act out our entire lives. Given the Sun’s importance, we’ve learned to articulate time around its trends. The Spring Equinox, Summer Solstice, Fall Equinox, and Winter Solstice all relate back to the felt shifts of shining brilliance the Sun shares with us in this lonely universe. And so it is from Earth’s perspective that I write these astrological forecasts in time with the Sun’s journey through the tropical zodiac.
Through the Sun’s entire tour of Scorpio, Uranus and Venus are in opposition, activating insights and shocks to the system via the Venus retrograde. Relationships, values, self-care, desires all receive continued review. With Uranus involved, sudden bursts and social calamities may come through as well. Electric love, spontaneous decisions that reveal hidden motives, and an awakening to what lies within our hearts. Though we may experience some chaos, we’ll be able to reclaim our desires and motives. Think of kundalini awakening, which is such a beautiful analogy of the Scorpion’s experience.
Scorpio is the zodiac’s fixed water sign, traditionally ruled by the planet Mars. In our modern era, many astrologers assign Pluto as the ruler of Scorpio. In either case, there is a distinct edge to the Scorpion’s experience – depth, separation, and destruction are prominent in this sign’s significations. But if we think about water, which is shapeless and yet takes up space, we find that there is something mysteriously soothing about it. Water, after all, is life-giving and is therefore representative of our origins. And so in fixed water, we hold still – we make space for those origin stories to come through, to understand the bottom line. It’s like going into the basement of your self to connect with the very root of your existence. There is something primordial and grotesque about it, but also wildly nourishing and enlivening.
This a season of observation, illumination, and reclamation. We have the capacity to light the flame within. Action may perspire and is even encouraged, but it isn’t recommended that intentions are planted. This is a time to reap what was earlier sewn. Mercury turns retrograde, too, doubling down on the themes of harvest and hibernation. This is a season to experience what is and what has been – stay present and don’t yet worry too much about the future (that time will come soon enough).
Scorpio 1 | Oct 23-Nov 2 | Desire Awakening
In the first decan of Scorpio, we are immediately re-introduced to the Venus-Uranus opposition. This opposition was first exact on September 12th, and remained quite close for the days following. Eventually, it went out of orb, but just as the Sun enters Scorpio, Venus’ retrograde motions brings the planet of desire back into a tight orb of its opposition with electrifying Uranus. This opposition remains prominent throughout the entirety of Scorpio Season, speaking volumes to the overall significations and outcomes of the Venus retrograde.
On October 24th, we get a really close look at what this Venus-Uranus opposition has to say with the Full Moon in Taurus.
The full moon is exact at 12:45 PM ET, in the second degree of Taurus and Scorpio. In Taurus the Moon is tightly conjoined Uranus, and in Scorpio the Sun is tightly conjoined Venus. These pairings also make favorable aspects to Saturn in Capricorn. This lunation brings our focus to Uranus first as the Moon acts like a magnetic magnifying glass. There is a sense of urgency that comes with Moon-Uranus contacts, something that makes our gut reactions come forward, and churns the emotional energy of the Moon such that our impulse-instincts are on edge and adrenalized. From this point of activity, we look towards the Venus-Sun conjunction since Uranus is in Venus-ruled Taurus. Venus and the Sun are not yet exactly conjoined, meaning that Venus is well hidden under the beams of the Sun, thus weakened in the desert that is combustion. At this point, we may still have a hard time understanding our desires (Venus) and motivations (Scorpio), but we know that they exist within us and make us hungry. This bounces us back to the Moon and Uranus in Taurus, inspiring us to chase our cravings, perhaps literal food or sensual cravings. There is potential for chaos, but with Saturn standing in a supporting role, the chaos may lead us to physical realities that bring us comfort and/or awakening.
Ultimately, the full moon gifts us awareness of our desire nature. It is possible that this gift comes as a rude awakening; perhaps it is something we don’t want to deal with right now. However, for the rest of Scorpio season, we are asked to study this part of ourselves and re-connect to our depths. If you avoid this necessary review process, it will seep out of and burst through the pipes of your internal affairs in ways that are much more uncomfortable.
On October 26th, the Sun and Venus are exactly conjunct at 10:16 AM ET at 3 degrees of Scorpio.
This conjunction marks the middle of Venus’ retrograde cycle, transforming the planet of beauty from evening star to morning star, from reflective to outwardly expressive. This is also a moment of insight and illumination into V’s retrograde and how it may be impacting us personally. With Venus in the heart of the Sun, we can experience literal a-ha moments that culminate around Venusian events such as social gatherings, interpersonal activities, and wining and dining. To note, this conjunction will occur on Friday (Venus’ Day) which will add an extra dose of awareness-insight.
On October 29th, Mercury conjoins Jupiter at 7:04 AM ET at 27 degrees of Scorpio.
Mercury-Jupiter conjunctions can bring a sense of optimism into the day’s mental activity. It can also indicate a mentally active day, in which we ponder the greater meaning of the world around us. In Scorpio, this conjunction can speak to the fruits of the deep-dive we’ve been undergoing with Venus’ retrograde. In a larger view, this can also offer clarity from Jupiter’s year long journey through Scorpio, and offer an opportunity for Jove to make any final remarks before it enters Sagittarius.
This Mercury-Jupiter conjunction also happens to mark the start of Mercury’s shadow period, which lasts about two weeks as Mercury slows before stationing retrograde. Knowing this, it’s possible that the Mercury-Jupiter conjunction brings into focus that which will be reviewed over the next month and a half.
On October 31, Halloween, we experience a boost of planetary activity.
- First, just after midnight ET, Mercury enters Sagittarius. Mercury in Sagittarius is at odds with Hermes’ innate desire to create definitions, separations, organization. Mercury would rather categorize ideas in detail than unify people under the same belief system. However, Sagittarius wants Mercury to bring ideas together in order to determine a philosophy to follow. In the first decan of Sag, Mercury speaks quite convincingly, separating one philosophy from the rest as the only worthwhile option. In our lived experience, we may be able to express personal philosophies with better vigor, or we may meet people who have strong opinions about their own. With the upcoming retrograde, these dogmas may not truly serve. Allow questions and doubts to surface.
- At 4:44 AM ET, Venus exactly opposes Uranus at 0 degrees of Scorpio and Taurus, respectively. This ongoing opposition becomes active early in the morning, perhaps awakening us to uncovered desires and uncomfortable depth analysis. The start of Halloween has a potent excitement and uncertainty; dressing up in costume is ultra exciting as we get to explore our scarier or more bizarre bits with more freedom.
- At 12:40 PM ET, we see a Last Quarter Moon in Leo at 8 degrees conjoined the North Node. Mid-day we check ourselves to see how our desires align with our personal truths. Are our underlying motives in sync with who we are? Is this an honest expression of self? If not, the last quarter moon offers us an opportunity to ponder how to re-connect those two parts of our lives.
- At 3:41 PM ET, Venus enters Libra. There should be a visceral shift from the Scorpion’s investigative nature to Libra’s unifying motion. Venus delights in its own sign, and happily reconnects with what it means to love in harmony. This speaks to the larger narrative of the day – how to align external social interactions with one’s true desire nature. How can we strike a balance between what is socially acceptable and what is deeply true? Have we been avoiding a part of ourselves in order to fit in? If so, let Venus in Libra guide us towards a more equal and realistic balance.
On November 1st Jupiter in Scorpio trines Chiron in Pisces at 1:35 PM ET.
This transit makes for an emotive and poignant day.
Chiron as the wounded healer needs a strong sense of philosophy and purpose in order to heal with any kind of medicinal property. Typically, Chiron placements in the natal chart can speak to an area of deep thought and introspection in a person’s life. Sometimes this simply results in brooding/isolation, but in other scenarios the thoughtful qualities of this placement can a lead a person to make meaningful decisions that positively impact others around them.
In transit, Chiron can speak to a certain area of life that has become sensitive and thought-provoking for the collective. For the last seven years, Chiron has been touring through Pisces, and its current retrograde marks its last time in Pisces for a long while. Pisces is associated with collective connection and mystical experiences that allow us to feel bonded with the world around us. With Chiron rolling through this sign, there has been deep thought placed on what it means to feel connection with the world and mystical qualities that exist within and around us.
As Jupiter sees its last few degrees through Scorpio this year, it makes a passing trine to Chiron. This boosts Chiron and its philosophical qualities. We may spend this day pondering the larger meaning of the universe around us. The depth of Scorpio adds a layer of occult, that which is hidden in our spirits may come to light now.
Beautifully, this transits coincides with Samhain – a pagan holiday that marks the end of the harvest and a turn inwards. This is a time to cocoon into the magic of your internal universe and to allow the rich nourishment of pause to take over.
Scorpio 2 | Nov 2 – Nov 12 | Reconnection
As the Sun moves into the second decan of Scorpio, there is a distinct stillness in our lives. The activity, uncovering, and excitement of the last few seasons falls to the side as we go inward. Though, as we travel internally, the excitement doesn’t stop; it only shifts and twists and becomes a ripe journey through our emotional landscape. There is something profoundly thrilling about the external stability that lends to internal activity.
On November 5th Venus conjoins the asteroid Ceres at 8:48 PM ET at 27 degrees of Libra.
Ceres can relate to the harvest, to the story of Demeter and her daughter Persephone, and to the underworld. As Venus nears its station point for direct motion, the contact made with Ceres can mirror the ongoing review of underworldly matters of the heart and desire. It can also speak to that which has been learned or gained since Venus was last in Libra. What have we learned about our values over the last few months?
On November 6th, the Sun trines Neptune at 1:40 AM ET at 13 degrees of Scorpio and Pisces respectively.
Though exact in the middle of the night, Sun trine Neptune creates a refracted glow that we carry with us through the day. This transit can briefly awaken us to mystical or spiritual paths that exist in our tiny universe. One might intentionally use this day to visit with the occult or mystical practice of their choosing – tarot, astrology, wicca, etc. Our imaginations will be active, giving us the rare opportunity to peer into a more universal sense of self. On the same token, this transit can cloud our judgments of reality and disconnect us from what is and isn’t. Sun-Neptune can also cast a desirable filter over potential relational issues that have been dredged up as a result of the Venus retrograde. This is a day better spent ruminating rather than activating.
Later on the same day, Uranus re-enters Aries at 1:59 PM ET.
This marks Uranus’ last entrance into Aries for approximately 84 years. Think of this final entrance into Aries as a resolution or wrap-up to Uranus’ 7 year transit through the cardinal fire sign. To consider how this transit has affected us, look to the Aries placement in your charts, and consider what ways new technology, pioneering attitudes, and individuality have become prominent. If you need help or would like to consult over this placement, consider scheduling a reading with me.
Another signification to consider is that Uranus has left our ultra stable Venus-ruled Taurus, and is no longer in a sign-based opposition to the Scorpio Sun. This adds a new layer of external stability that grounds us and allows for steadier depth work through the rest of this season.
On November 7th a New Moon at 15 degrees of Scorpio is exact at 11:02 AM ET.
This new lunation cycle kicks off with a straightforward motive – to illuminate the depths of our egos. This is a moment in the season to be still, observant, and non-judgmental. I suggest that we make the time to witness what moves in the dark, to lay awake in the nighttime of our inner worlds. This could also be an opportunity to begin transmuting whatever toxins may have arisen over the last two weeks; to lean into the transformative nature of Scorpio.
On November 8th Jupiter enters Sagittarius at 7:38 AM ET.
When a planet enters a sign it rules, it is as if its royal highness has entered its own castle. It becomes stronger, has better control, and is able to signify what it really wants to signify. In the mutable fire sign of Sagittarius, Jupiter expresses philosophies with vigor and excitement; it sees spirit and optimism in the world around it; our dream lives become richer and our sense of the bigger picture – the mystery of the universe – is newly enchanted. This ingress happily reminds us of the point of all of the deep-diving and underworld mess we’ve gotten ourselves into. Hope and joy become alive again.
To note, this ingress actually occurs on Thursday (Jupiter’s Day) and so we should feel the joy of Jupiter upon waking that morning.
On November 9th Mars in Aquarius trines Venus in Libra at 26 degrees at 10:11 AM ET.
Venus-Mars trines activate a charismatic nature; an energy that is both brave enough to be individualistic and caring enough to connect with others. On this day we get a moment to reclaim our ability to connect with others. This will come as a relief since the last few months Venus has been disconnected, withdrawing, and isolating. Now we get to begin experiencing Venus in bloom, even despite the retrograde motion. We are so near the end of this backwards motion, there is a sense of resolution and harmony – at least the start of it.
On November 11th the Sun sextiles Pluto at 19 degrees at 10:21 AM ET.
This is a beautiful day to lean into introspection, to review what you’ve learned about your inner psychological make-up, and to spend some time resting with your inner shadow. It isn’t necessary to be naked and constantly vulnerable with the world, but it is important to be vulnerable with yourself (this is the only way lasting connections exist – through an ongoing sense of who you are, what you need, and what you can bring to the table).
Scorpio 3 | Nov 12 – Nov 22 | What is Satisfaction?
Upon the Sun’s shift into the third decan of Scorpio, we might begin to feel overwhelmed by the underworld adventures we’ve had up to this point. There is a distinct moment in the nature of obsession where we cross the boundary between joy and excess. Consider the last ten days of Scorpio season to be a study of this boundary.
On November 15th a First Quarter Moon is exact at 22 degrees of Aquarius at 9:54 AM ET.
The first quarter moon is a crisis point. After the seeds planted at the new moon, we begin to face our first obstacles on the journey towards culmination. In Aquarius, this can relate to what ideals or expectations we hold in contrast to what demons we’ve discovered within ourselves. This can force us to question the intent of our expectations and the value of our shadows. In what ways can we compromise the two to create a more realistic expectation and to shed whatever bad habits no longer serve?
On the same day, Mars enters Pisces at 5:20 PM ET.
For nearly the entire year, Mars has been in a Saturn-ruled sign. This has definitely had its benefits: Mars has been able to filter a lot of its energy through the hard-working nature of Saturn, reducing impulse, and activating major productivity. On the flip side, this has also led to burn out, over-working ourselves, and exhaustion.
In Pisces, Mars takes a break from productivity and enters a realm of mysticism and spirituality. Ruled by Jupiter, Pisces asks Mars to connect with the collective. A positive way to use this energy is to go to a yoga class, to practice the martial arts, or to ground oneself in meditative visualizations.
In connection with the First Quarter Moon, Mars’ entrance into Pisces can also fuel us to chase after our ideals despite whatever internal dramas may hold us back. This can lead to a state of excessive escapism. It’s possible that we need the escape – a break from what the hardships of this year’s Saturnian vibes – but be careful not to overdo it.
On November 16th, Venus stations direct at 25 degrees of Libra at 5:51 AM ET.
Venus’ direct motion is exciting! After a long summer of retrogrades, we finally come to the end of the year’s most challenging transits. Take a breath of fresh air, and a moment to enjoy Venus in its home sign of Libra. Venus won’t leave Libra until December, so the rest of this month should have a notable Venusian glow over it.
On the same day, Mercury stations retrograde at 13 degrees of Sagittarius at 8:33 PM ET. Mercury also squares Neptune in Pisces throughout its station.
This is a particularly rough station for Mercury. It is already uncomfortable in the sign opposite its own, and then it is in a square with Neptune! Neptune can cause a lot of confusion and fog – too much for Mercury to parse through even at its strongest. Neptune’s square to Mercury’s station makes for major miscommunications, commuting mishaps, and exaggerated Mercury retrograde chaos.
Sometimes when a planet stations, we can get a sense of what the retrograde will feel like, but with Neptune so active in this station, it seems as though we won’t even get that. This is a day to lay low, and not do anything that requires any kind of mental processing.
On November 19th Mars in Pisces squares Jupiter in Sagittarius at 2 degrees at 8:30 PM ET.
This square pattern will likely be tense at first, but should lead to more positive outcomes. Jupiter has the clear upper hand as the ruler of both Sagittarius and Pisces. It is also in a superior square to Mars which means that Jupiter is three zodiacal signs earlier than Mars, implying that Jupiter has added authority.
It seems that there could be an aggressive confrontation due to the martial involvement, but ultimately confrontation leads to expanding and opening our minds. Another possibility could be an aggressive desire for escapism, driving ourselves to a state of excess which ultimately teaches us a hard lesson about our escapist tendencies.
On November 20th, the Moon conjoins Uranus in Aries at 29 degrees at 5:46 PM ET.
The Moon’s contact with Uranus in Aries adds a layer of perception to Uranus’ recent ingress. This is the first time since Uranus re-entered Aries that the Moon has joined it. The experiences of this day will likely speak volumes of our personal experiences with Uranus in Aries. It’s possible that a new insight on an old problem becomes available to us, or that we are tested to ensure our Uranus-Aries lessons have been learned.
This is the last major transit before the Sun enters Sagittarius, giving us one final moment in the low-lit journey of Scorpio. There is potential for crisis as we leave a fixed sign and enter the season of a mutable one. What comes up on this day will be reviewed during Sagittarius Season.
